Need to Know Items
Concrete Countertops
Countertops may be ordered in a variety or
finishes and colors. The lead-time on a countertop may
vary between 2-3 weeks. Pricing includes delivery and
installation
Like all stone products, concrete is porous
and is highly absorbent to liquids. A penetrating sealer
must be applied to the surface to prevent future staining.
Generally, it is industry standard to follow the penetrating
sealer application with a superficial coat of wax. All
tops are delivered sealed and ready for use.
Care must still be taken with acidic liquids
(i.e. lemon juice, vinegar) and wines to prevent staining.
Spills should not be allowed to remain on the surface for very
long. Routine maintenance, such as waxing, should be done
a few times a year, depending on the amount of surface usage.
An advantage to using concrete is that flat
items may be embedded into the surface of the concrete
countertop making the finished product even more unique and
personal. Ask our associates about the types of items that
will work with this technique. Pricing for concrete
countertops range from between $65-$125 per square foot.
Concrete Furniture
Furniture includes all outdoor benches,
tables, grill surrounds, as well as interior side tables (i.e.
coffee tables, sofa tables, end tables). A variety of
custom bases are available in wrought iron, moulded concrete or
wood. Pricing is determined upon design requests.
Concrete Fireplace Surrounds
Fireplace surrounds are custom fitted around
most dimensional fireplace openings. The largest opening
we can readily accept is 42" wide by 40" tall. The
lead-time for a fireplace surround is 3-4 weeks. Larder
custom fireplace surrounds can easily be produced.
Lead-time for larger, custom fireplace surrounds may be up to 6
weeks. Pricing ranges from $800-$3,500 including
installation.
Acid Staining of Existing Concrete
Floors
Acid staining an existing concrete floor can
be messy. The multi-step process is as follows:
Day One: Prepare and clean the floor, tape and protect any
walls, apply acid to concrete
Day Two: Clean and neutralize all concrete surfaces, mop
with water and let dry
Day Three: Seal concrete with two coats, first of which being
primer.
Sealers used on the interior of a home are usually an acrylic or
epoxy based sealer. Odor and sheen may vary. Color
may vary from job-to-job depending on the existing concrete.
There is a possibility of a fourth day to add another coat of
sealer.
Pricing ranges from $4-$8 per square foot.
NOTE: Concrete surfaces must be free
from any prior sealers, as this will prevent acid from
penetrating the concrete. Specify to your concrete
contractor that an alternative means be used to cure concrete
other than a topical membranes sealer. The builder must
also take care to keep the concrete free from any plumbing glue,
paint and the link. Concrete slabs must be a minimum of 30
days old.
Concrete Overlay
If the customer has previously applied a good
sealer to the surface, or the concrete is damaged and overlay
must be applied to the surface that is then stained and sealed.
The process consists of essentially trowelling a cement topping
- varying from 1/16 to 1/4 inch thick - onto the existing
concrete surface. Pricing is between $6-$8 a square foot.
A representative must conduct an on-site
evaluation in order to determine whether this application may be
applied.
